What to Expect When Working with Rehab Medical

Updated: Sep 1, 2023

Rehab Medical prides itself on providing customers with customized mobility equipment two times faster than the average provider. For more than a decade, our team has provided expert guidance and support to mobility users just like YOU! This includes navigating you through the complex, and often overwhelming, process of acquiring specialized mobility equipment through insurance. To help simplify this process, our team of mobility experts have put together a comprehensive guide to help you better understand the process of ordering mobility equipment through Rehab Medical.

(1) Evaluation

The first step to acquiring new medical equipment through insurance is to provide Rehab Medical with basic information, such as the best contact number for our team to reach you, what your mobility needs are, the location of where the mobility product will reside, and insurance information. In the meantime, we ask that you schedule a face-to-face consultation with your primary doctor. If you are unable to do so, there are telehealth options available to you, just ask your doctor if that is a service they provide. During your doctor’s visit, it’s imperative that you explain what your mobility challenges are and why you need a mobility solution. This will help your doctor and our team of mobility specialists figure out the best solution for your needs.

Note: We can work with most types of insurance including Medicare, Medicaid, and many private insurance companies. However, each situation varies depending on location, type of coverage, etc.

(2) Documentation

The second step in our process is to sit with a Rehab Medical mobility specialist as well as a physical therapist or occupational therapist to assess your mobility needs in depth. During this process both specialists will visit you in your home and evaluate your mobility challenges. If there are high-traffic areas in your home or specific activities you enjoy doing and you want your new mobility solution to accommodate those needs, be sure to let them know that so they can customize a solution for those unique needs. Once this in-home evaluation is completed, our team will collect the information provided by you and your doctor and submit it to our insurance team where they will then submit all forms to your insurance and work diligently to get you approved!

(3) Authorization

The third step of our process will mostly be handled by the Rehab Medical team and your primary doctor. After we've collected all documentation provided to us by you and your doctor (this is the information collected in step one and two of the process), our dedicated team of insurance specialists will advocate on your behalf to ensure you are approved for the equipment that meets your needs. We will continuously keep you updated throughout this process, and should your insurance deny your claim for any reason, our insurance team will conduct a personal evaluation with your insurance and doctor to ensure you are approved for what you need.

Note: In the event, the initial request is denied, we will circle back with your doctors to acquire all the additional paperwork needed to get you approved for your new equipment.

(4) Customization

The fourth step in the process is one of the most exciting steps! A mobility expert will come out to your home and evaluate your needs. This is where we will ask you about your activities of daily living and what is essential to you for living an independent lifestyle. From there we will connect with our partners to find which mobility product will best meet your needs then we will begin to assemble your equipment. Once that is complete, then the last and most exciting step of the process happens, the final fitting and delivery!

Note: If you require a complex wheelchair, a specialty fit expert will come to your own to conduct and more in-depth

(5) Final Fitting and Delivery

The last step in our process is conducting a final fitting and delivery. After your equipment has been assembled, you will receive a phone call from a Rehab Medical service technician to schedule the best day and time for them to deliver your new wheelchair. Make sure you will be home during the time of your scheduled delivery. To prepare for your fitting and delivery appointment, our exceptional service team has created a step-by-step guide on what you can expect!
